[Tokyo] Special Feature on Commercial Facilities to Open in 2016

[Tokyo] Special Feature on Commercial Facilities to Open in 2016

Tokyo is undergoing urban development and improvement in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics, and new commercial facilities are opening one after another in 2016. Here are some of the commercial facilities that will open this year and their features (information as of April 2016).

Tokyu Plaza Ginza (Chuo Ward)

Opened on March 31, 2016, near the Sukiyabashi intersection in Ginza, Tokyu Plaza Ginza is a commercial facility consisting of two basement floors and 11 above-ground floors. The exterior design is based on the construction concept of a "vessel of light," and was created in the motif of the traditional craft of "Edo Kiriko Cut Glass". Inside the facility, there are many open spaces, such as an open terrace with a water and green theme and a 27-meter-high atrium, which are worth visiting.

It is directly connected to the Tokyo Metro Ginza Station by an underground line, and as mentioned above, the commercial facilities span from the second basement to the 11th floor above ground. The first two floors above ground are occupied by flagship stores such as Emporio Armani and EDWARD GREEN.
The 3rd to 5th floors are dedicated to fashion, sundries, and cafes, while the 6th to 7th floors are called "FIND JAPAN MARKET" with shops such as "Iori". The 8 and 9th floors are home to the Lotte Duty-Free Ginza, a duty-free shop in the middle of the city, while the 10th and 11th floors are dedicated to food, offering a wide variety of options.

NEWoMan (Shinjuku Ward)

NEWoMan is a newly opened commercial facility in front of the New South Exit of JR Shinjuku Station, which opened on March 25, 2016, with fashion-related stores such as apparel and sundries. On April 15, restaurants, cafes, food shops, and other food-related shops began operating. The building is adjacent to the popular large bus terminal "Busta Shinjuku", in a very easy-to-access location.

What is noteworthy is that there are many restaurants that have landed in Japan for the first time, as well as cafes and food stores with new business models. Blue Bottle Coffee, which opened its first store in Japan in Kiyosumi Shirakawa last February, is also located in Newman, and as of April, you have to wait in line to get to the counter. The exterior and interior are reminiscent of a New York market, giving it a unique urban feel.

Tri-Seven ROPPONGI (Minato Ward)

Tri-Seven Roppongi is a 14-story, 79.5-meter tall office building with retail facilities under construction directly across from Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi.

The building is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2016, and the luxury department store Barneys New York plans to open a shop on the first and second floors in the fall. There are also reports that Blue Bottle Coffee, which is housed in the Newman we mentioned earlier, will open a new store in Tri-Seven Roppongi. The central area in Roppongi with new commercial facilities and offices for sure will be a popular spot.

Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho (Chiyoda Ward)

Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho is an urban complex scheduled to be open on the site of the former Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka. There will be two buildings: the 180-meter-tall Kioi Tower, which will consist of offices, a hotel, commercial facilities, and the 100-meter-tall Kioi Residence, which will have 135 units, all of which will be rented apartments. In addition, the Akasaka Prince Classic House, a reconstruction of the former Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka, is also under construction.

The commercial facility will have approximately 33 stores, including restaurants and food supermarkets on the first through fourth floors of Kioi Tower, and will begin operating under the name "Kioi Terrace". Close to Kojimachi, Nagatacho, and Akasaka-Mitsuke stations in Chiyoda Ward, it will be a spot with a sense of status, just as the Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka once was. The impressive glass exterior of this skyscraper is sure to change the landscape of the area.

Kyobashi Edogrand (Chuo Ward)

Kyobashi Edogrand is a complex currently under construction near Tokyo Station and Kyobashi Station. It is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2016. The lower floors will be a commercial area with about 30 restaurants and other shops, and the upper floors will house offices. The skyscraper will have three basement floors, 32 stories above ground, and two towers, and will be approximately 170 meters tall. The concept of the commercial zone is "casual wear for adults who know "high quality", "intelligence", and "essence". It is likely to be a facility targeting a slightly older age group.

In 2016, the above commercial facilities will be born in Tokyo. Why don't you visit the newly completed place?
