Sightseeing Spots around Osaka Station!

Most tourists in Osaka, visit famous places like USJ, Osaka Castle, Expo Park, or Namba Grand Kagetsu theater, but if you don't have enough time you still can enjoy a surprisingly satisfying trip just by visiting places close to Osaka Station! So this time, we'll introduce you to a selection of sightseeing spots around and just a short walk from Osaka Station.  (Information as of June 2018)

Grand Front Osaka

Grand Front Osaka opened in 2013 in the "Umekita" area north of Osaka and Umeda stations. The complex is divided into Umekita Plaza, South Building, North Building (two towers), and Grand Front Osaka Owners Tower, you can enjoy shopping malls, restaurants, theaters, offices, hotels, convention centers, and apartments.
There are 272 shops of various genres including fashion, sundry goods, lifestyle, beauty, restaurants, cafes, and bars. With many spaces for rest and relaxation, you can enjoy shopping as if you were taking a stroll in the city.


Access:  A short walk from JR Osaka Station.

Ferris wheel HEP FIVE

This bright red Ferris wheel, 75 meters in diameter, is located on the top of a building. This Ferris wheel is a symbol of the Umeda area, and is located in the HEP FIVE commercial complex as if it were an integral part of the building. If you want to enjoy the view from 106 meters above the ground, board the Ferris wheel from the platform on the 7th floor. It takes about 15 minutes to complete one lap and you can also enjoy a lit-up view at night.


One ride costs 600 yen per person, and the commemorative photo service costs 500 yen. This is a great spot for couples.

              4-minute walk from Osaka Station on the JR Line

Osaka Station City

Osaka Station City is the largest commercial complex in western Japan. On the north side of the station building, you can find specialty stores  LUCUA and LUCUA 1100, while on the south side there are Daimaru Umeda Store and Hotel Granvia Osaka.


The two buildings can be accessed by the north-south connecting bridge, and there is also a "connecting bridge ticket gate" at the bridge station building. The space between the buildings is covered with a huge roof. Nine squares, including the aerial garden "Sun Square" and the beautiful "Water Clock" in the "South Gate Square", are very popular here.

Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street

Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Arcade is said to be the longest arcade shopping street in Japan, with a total length of about 2.6 km and stretching from Tenjinbashi 1-chome to 7-chome. The arcade is lined with about 600 stores, including super cheap clothing stores, general stores, restaurants, and pubs. The street is quite crowded with locals and tourists.


This is a great place to eat takoyaki (octopus dumplings), croquettes, sweets, or to go to a Kushikatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant or Izakaya (Japanese bar). On the 8th floor of the Housing Information Center Building, which is directly connected to the Tenjinbashisuji Rokuchome Station, there is the Osaka Museum of Housing and Living, where you can experience the lifestyle of Osaka people during the Edo and Showa periods.


Access: A short walk from JR Tenma Station, Ogimachi Station on the Sakaisuji Subway Line, and Minamimorimachi Station on the Tanimachi and Sakaisuji Subway Lines; or a 20-minute walk from JR Osaka Station.

Osaka Science Museum

The Osaka Science Museum is located in Nakanoshima, Kita-ku, Osaka City and is dedicated to the theme of "Space and Energy". The museum has about 200 hands-on exhibits to familiarize visitors with science. Science shows are also held by professional staff.


The centerpiece of the museum is the planetarium, which is projected on one of the world's largest dome screens, 26.5 meters in diameter. You can contemplate the mysteries of the universe while watching a realistic and powerful astronomical show.


Access: 11-minute walk from JR Fukushima Station,
           a 5-minute walk from Watanabebashi Station on the Keihan Nakanoshima Line,
           a 6-minute walk from Higobashi Station on the Subway Yotsubashi Line,
           a 20-minute walk from JR Osaka Station.



Opening hours:  9:30  -  17:00

Nakanoshima Park

Nakanoshima Park is a 1.5-kilometer waterfront park with an area of 10.6 hectares, located between the Dojima River and the Tosahori River in the central business district of Osaka City. The rose garden is famous for its 3,700 roses of about 310 varieties, which are at their best in spring and autumn.


In the vicinity, there are the Central Public Hall and the National Palace Museum. The park is surrounded by old buildings such as the Central Public Hall and the Prefectural Nakanoshima Library, providing a nostalgic atmosphere. The area is also known for its stylish restaurants and cafes with open-air seating, giving you a bit of a resort atmosphere.



Access:  right from "Yodoyabashi Station" on the Subway Midosuji Line, "Kitahama Station" on the Subway Sakaisuji Line, and "Naniwabashi Station" on the Keihan Railway. About 20 minutes on foot from JR "Osaka Station".
