Have you made your plans for Golden Week? Golden Week is a holiday that usually starts at the end of Apryl and the beginning of May. It. During Golden Week you can find lots of travel offers to spend relaxing time and enjoy nature. But due to the overcrowding of all tourist destinations and high prices, many remain in Tokyo. In this article, we'll introduce some of the best sightseeing spots for those visiting Tokyo during Golden Week.  (Information as of April 2018)

Tokyo Sky Tree

The Tokyo Sky Tree has become a new symbol of Tokyo. The main attraction is the aerial corridor located 450 meters above the ground. The panoramic view of the Kanto region from the upper floors is a breathtaking sight. We recommend buying a ticket in advance as it is expected to be crowded during the Golden Week holidays.


Observation Deck Hours:  8:00  -  22:00  (last admission 21:00)

Access: 2-minute walk from "Tokyo Skytree Station" on the Tobu Skytree Line

Admission: (Adult day ticket) Tokyo Skytree Observation Deck  2,060 yen + Tokyo Skytree Observation Corridor  1,030 yen  (total 3,090 yen)

Tokyo Tower

With the construction of the Skytree, Tokyo Tower's role as a radio tower has come to an end, but it still boasts a strong popularity as a sightseeing spot. During the Golden Week holidays, the stairs to the main observation deck are open every day, so why not take this opportunity to challenge yourself?



Main Observatory Opening Hours:  9:00  -  23:00  (last admission 22:30)

Access: 5-minute walk from Akabanebashi Station on the Toei Oedo Line,
             6-minute walk from Onarimon Station on the Toei Mita Line,
             7-minute walk from Kamiyacho Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line

Fee: Adults: 900 yen (Main Observatory)

Tokyo Sea Life Park

There are no sea lions or dolphins that are popular in the aquarium, but the Tokyo Sea Life Park in Kasai Rinkai Park is where you can see tuna swarming under a huge glass dome that is 30.7 meters above the ground and various creatures living in the sea of Tokyo. A "guided tour" around the museum with a professional commentator is also a great highlight here.


Opening hours:  9:30 - 17:00 (last entry 16:00), opening hours may vary.

Access: 5-minute walk from Kasai Rinkai Koen Station on the JR Keiyo Line

Ghibli Museum (Mitaka City Animation Museum)

"Mitaka no Mori Ghibli Museum" is the first animation museum in Japan. The world-famous animation director Hayao Miyazaki was involved in the original planning of the museum, so you can enjoy the world of Studio Ghibli to the fullest. At the Ghibli Museum, you will receive an admission ticket with a 35mm film of a Ghibli film in exchange for your admission ticket. Which film you will get is up to you at the time. This is a great way to learn about the history of Ghibli.



Opening hours: 10:00 - 18:00  (Closed: Tuesday)

Access: 15 minutes on foot from Mitaka Station on the JR Chuo Line

Fee: 1,000 yen for adults and university students

National Museum of Nature and Science

"The National Museum of Nature and Science" is the only national science museum in Japan. The museum is divided into two sections, the Earth Pavilion and the Japan Pavilion, where you can enjoy learning about everything from the birth of life to human history in the Japanese archipelago. Both buildings are very large, so it is recommended that you download the map of the building in advance.


Opening hours: [Permanent collection]  9:00  -  17:00  (9:00 - 20:00 on Fridays and Saturdays only); admission until 30 minutes before closing. Special exhibitions have different opening hours for each exhibition.

Access: 5-minute walk from the Park Exit of JR Ueno Station

Admission: [Permanent Exhibition] 620 yen for adults and university students

Sunshine Aquarium

The Sunshine Aquarium is located in Ikebukuro Sunshine City and is known as an oasis in the city. You can enjoy the fantastic world of "Fuwari Umu", a tunnel-shaped tank of jellyfish, and "Sunshine Aquaring", an area where you can watch sea lions, penguins and other marine creatures from below.



Opening hours:  10:00  -  21:00  (open all year round); opening hours are subject to change.

Access: 3-minute walk from Higashi-Ikebukuro Station on the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line,
             8-minute walk from Ikebukuro Station on the JR, Tokyo Metro, Seibu, and Tobu Lines

Fee: Adults (high school students and older)  2,200 yen

Tokyo Midtown

Tokyo Midtown is a lush, natural complex that has appeared in the city of Roppongi. You can enjoy a day of shopping, dining at restaurants, experiencing design and art at the museum, or just relaxing on the lawn.


Opening hours: 
   Shops:  11:00 - 21:00
   Restaurants: 11:00 - 24:00  (some exceptions apply)
   Art Museum: 10:00 - 19:00 (some exceptions apply)

Access: Directly connected to Exit 8 of Roppongi Station on the Toei Subway Oedo and other lines
