Where to See Sakura in Osaka? 6 Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots

Osaka is a popular tourist destination. It is a city with a strong image of gourmet food and comedy, but it is also a great place for Hanami (Sakura viewing) spots where you can enjoy cherry blossoms in full bloom during spring. In this article, we will introduce some popular Hanami spots in Osaka that are recommended for enjoying the beautiful cherry blossom season. (Information as of March 2019)

Osaka Castle Park

Osaka Castle Park is located in the vicinity of Osaka Castle, a popular sightseeing spot in Osaka. About 3,000 cherry trees, including Someiyoshino trees, are planted on the vast site of about 100 hectares, and the whole area is painted in light pink during spring. The "Cherry Blossom Night Tour" is especially popular in Osaka as it offers a fantastic view of the illuminated Osaka Castle and the cherry blossoms at night.


Address: Osaka Castle, Chuo-ku, Osaka City (close to Morinomiya and Osaka Castle Park Stations on the JR Osaka Loop Line)

Kema Sakuranomiya Park

Kema Sakuranomiya Park is a city park with the Tenma Bridge downstream and the "Kema Lock Gate" where the Yodo River and Okawa meet. About 4,800 cherry trees, including Someiyoshino trees, Yamazakura trees, and Satozakura trees, are planted along the riverside, making it a popular cherry blossom viewing spot for people working in the nearby office district.

Satsukiyama Park

"Satsukiyama Park" is located in the center of Ikeda City and spreads over the area of Satsukiyama at an altitude of 315 meters. Every year from around the end of March to the beginning of April, cherry blossoms are in full bloom, turning the whole mountain pink. The park is also a great place to watch the cherry blossoms at night, with lanterns lit from sunset.

The Japan Mint: Cherry Blossom Passage

The Mint Bureau is one of the most popular cherry blossom viewing spots in Osaka. The area is usually off-limits, but it is open to the public for a limited time only during the cherry blossom season. There are 349 cherry trees of 134 varieties planted along the 560-meter-long "cherry blossom passage", and you can enjoy Hanami at night under the bonbori lights (Japanese lanterns). Please note that the entrance is a one-way street from the south gate.

Daisen Park

Daisen Park is located between the Mausoleum of Emperor Nintoku and the Mausoleum of Emperor Richu. About 400 Someiyoshino cherry trees and Oshima cherry trees are planted around the Dora Pond in the center of the park, and when they are in full bloom, the area is covered with a gentle pink color. There is also a lawn open space in the park, where you can have lunch and relax.

Expo '70 Commemorative Park

Expo '70 Commemorative Park, built on the site of the 1970 Osaka World's Fair, is a popular spot for flowers. In spring, the "Expo '70 Commemorative Park Cherry Blossom Festival" is held every year, and you can enjoy the illuminated cherry blossoms at night. It is a must-see symbol of the park, the Tower of the Sun, together with about 5,500 cherry trees in full bloom.

Opening hours:  9:30 - 17:00  (until  21:00  during the Cherry Blossom Festival)
