Cool summer desserts in Kyoto! Recommended 5 excellent shaved ice

One of the best things to do when sightseeing in Kyoto in summer is to enjoy the cool and refreshing shaved ice!
Kyoto is also known for its heat, and there are many places to enjoy shaved ice.
In this issue, we will introduce some of the best shaved ice you must try when you come to Kyoto in the summer! We have prepared a MAP at the end for your reference.

This shaved ice specialty store is located in a residential area about a 10-minute walk from JR Nijo Station. The ice is thoroughly temperature-controlled, and the shaved ice is made with the utmost care, giving it a fluffy texture similar to cotton candy. The flavors are varied, including those using seasonal fruits, and the store has been a hot topic of conversation since it first opened.

The summer strawberries with high sugar content grown in Iizuna Highlands, Nagano City, are used lavishly. The refreshing sweetness of strawberries is complemented by homemade condensed milk.

The syrup is made by roughly mixing the fruit to preserve the pulp after receiving the order, and is fresh and refreshingly sweet

● Kanoko-milk [Bottom right image]
Homemade puréed milk is made by slowly boiling down milk and topped with handmade panna cotta and whipped cream. This popular menu item has a perfect balance of sweetness

Located just past the Shimabara Daimon Gate, a registered tangible cultural property. The shaved ice is mainly made from fruit, which brings out the original taste and natural sweetness of the fruit. Enjoy the best match between the fluffy shaved ice and the fruit-filled nectar made to order.

The refreshing lime aroma spreads and the tangy spiciness of Aoyama Shou goes great with the gin lime! You can enjoy the mature taste.

This menu item uses seedless fresh Pione, allowing you to enjoy the pulpy pulp without worrying about the seeds. As you eat your way through the thick grape juice and ice, you will encounter cream cheese and graham crackers with a crunchy texture.

Dried figs are made into a paste and combined with milk in a fig syrup base, which is then flavored with a salted caramel sauce. Inside is a traditional pudding flavored with vanilla essence.

Based on the concept of “cherishing what already exists and creating new value,” “Tea and Sake Tasuki-Shimpukan” uses Kyoto's seasonal ingredients and expresses them in the form of classic “shaved ice. In addition to the standard matcha mitsu and roasted tea mitsu, customers can also enjoy cocktail-based sake ice, tea cocktails, and Kyoto craft beer.

Nijo Wakasaya Teramachi Store, located about a 5-minute walk from Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway, is a Japanese confectionery with a relaxed atmosphere that is unmistakably Kyoto. Founded at the beginning of the Taisho era (1912-1926), the shop's passion as a“hobbyist confectioner”to convey enjoyment as well as flavor has been passed down to the present day and continues to be loved by customers.

The syrup is made with only a little sugar and lemon juice and cooked with little heat so as not to spoil the flavor of Kyo-no-shizuku, the premium strawberries used in Kyoto's famous patisseries and hotels

● Hashirii-mochi Shigure [Right image]
Half and half shaved ice with Uji green tea and white honey imported from a teahouse in Yawata City, topped with the famous Hashirii-mochi. The mochi is best served early, as it is said that if left to the last minute, it will become too cold and crispy

The very popular "Matcha Set" from the cafe menu features "Hashirii-mochi" made with high quality ingredients such as Hokkaido azuki beans and premium glutinous rice from Shiga Prefecture, along with locally produced Yawata City matcha green tea.

A long-established Japanese confectionery shop known for its "Hashirii-mochi" a confectionery in front of the Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine gate. The shaved ice available only during the summer months is also very popular at the cafe, where you can enjoy wagashi in a relaxed atmosphere. The shaved ice made with local ingredients, such as Uji green tea shaved ice using green tea from Yawata City, a famous tea production area, and "Ultimate Strawberry Ice" using 100% local brand strawberries, Kyo-no-shizuku, will bring you cool air.
